Social and Cultural Awareness Course

Audience: 10-14 year old students

Responsibilities: Instructional Design, Curriculum Design, Script Writing, Video Editing

Tools Used: Google Workspace, Miro, Vyond

Problem

The client's goal was to address the lack of a comprehensive understanding of social and cultural awareness among kids, a gap that is increasingly evident in American public schools. This deficiency hinders their ability to empathize with people from diverse backgrounds and understand different perspectives, leading to challenges in fostering an inclusive and understanding school environment.

Solution

Recognizing this issue, I designed a fun and relevant instructional course. Aimed at providing holistic education, this course fills the crucial gap by teaching vital life skills not typically covered in standard curriculums. It is expertly crafted to be engaging and age-appropriate, ensuring that students not only learn about social and cultural awareness but also imbibe the values of empathy, diversity, and global understanding. This course represents a significant step towards equipping young learners with the skills they need to navigate an increasingly interconnected world.

Process

I implemented a followed a blend of instructional and learning design theories. These frameworks support the client's goal of a holistic approach to education, emphasizing active engagement, reflection, and understanding the social context of learning, which are key to fostering social and cultural awareness in young learners.
